And personally, while Carvin's prices are no longer bargain basement, I think you still get a great value for the money.I thought about it after I wrote it - that "beancounter" might be offensive to some people on here.

I too have been looking longingly at the new CS series now is not the time for me to get another guitar, but I'm very much considering one, along with the new covered pickups. OTOH, this guitar has the Holdsworth pickups, that sounds far "rounder." In the past I had a Carvin 7-string that felt great but the pickups sounded a bit shrill and thin (they were stock passives). I currently have an AE185-12L, which plays fantastically, and feels great. Luckily, I also think they make great guitars. I've always had a soft-spot for Carvins, both as a California company, and because they treat lefties like human beings. Is it really that tough to reprogram the CNC machine? I understand an upcharge, but I don't understand simply not making lefties available. I'm also left-handed, and I get fed up with companies that don't offer left-handed guitars. My problem is im left handed, so i dont have near the same options as most people, hence looking at carvins.Ībsolutely. Ya, that is a great looking guitar, i really like it. And of course, as you needed, they make everything available to left-handed players. You DO get to pick all the available "options" of your guitar from a large list that includes colors and wood type, fret types, bridge types, neck types, and even among Carvin's own pickups. My longterm view is that they make very nice guitars, it's too bad you can't just tell them to use Duncan's or someother brand of pickup. There's a regular rotation of their "in-store" stock, so I've played LOTS of Carvin's over the decade or so I've lived nearby. but many times the guitars are perfect, but returned because the player didn't like it for some reason other than QC. They would, of course regularly repair any electrical or physical problem. They do have "in-stock" models, and many of these are very nice guitars that were returned for some reason. They generally "build to order", and the timing can vary for getting your guitar. some have even put up with multiple "return and replacement" situations.Ĭarvin offers a 10 day return policy on any guitar ordered. people are usually VERY pleased with their guitars. There have been a growing number of reports about challenges with the QC on some guitars received.

I would probably be happy with the pickups, and not change a thing. The new "singlecuts" are light, great looking, and easy to play. I think you have to hear them yourself to decide. Their pickups are probably the most "modded" part of the guitars, some people are more than happy with the carvin pups, others immediately change them. Really fast necks and easy access in most models to anywhere on the neck.
Carvin guitars wiki plus#
On the plus side, Carvin's guitars, when built correctly, are beautiful to look at and their necks are designed and setup for speed. I live a few miles from Carvin's hq, and have played all of the models frequently, and have owned a couple.
